Instant Karma was not my sole motivator in following a spiritual path. I found myself as a young child pushing a lot of paranormal experiences into the ethereal background and desperately wishing them away. I wanted to be like everyone else and experience a life without the need to delve spiritually deeper than the next child. I chose to have a cheeky demeanour, find time for adventure and live a carefree rebellious life. This also meant I wanted to gain the mark of approval that my school friends offered to the kid who was the most deserving of the day. So I was prepared to go out on a limb and fight for this title on my instant karma day.
I returned back to school eager to commence Grade 2 at my local primary school and was excitedly chatting with a group of girls close to my age when I turned around and saw my best friend Jenny. Jenny and I had one of those coincidental encounters that leave a great big grin when you find yourself saying something like: "Wow how great it was to find you were at the same holiday destination as me." Which was all perfectly innocent at the time; it was the words which left my mouth explaining my reason for being there that took me to the door of instant karma.
Jenny started to share with the group how we had accidentally bumped into each other in the local store at a tourist destination over the holiday season – even though we lived 100 or so kilometres away from the alluring white sandy beach and enticing cool ocean setting.
I didn’t hesitate and started to excitedly express to the growing group of girls that my parents owned a holiday house, although I jolly well knew we rented the accommodation. I loved my moment of fitting in and gaining everyone’s approval. It was a special moment…..but one that was not going to last.
At the moment I found myself telling this elaborate make-believe story, I also immediately found myself floating out of my body and witnessing this all from a short distance. A part of my consciousness was forcing me to witness this rebellious spiritual child lying through her teeth.
I was able to clairvoyantly hear, see and feel everything that was occurring, and was spiritually aware that I was viewing myself from a distance; it was a surreal, spiritual moment of truth.
It also shook me to the very core and I found myself feeling much like a zombie supposedly might feel. Remorse, guilt, and sorrow became my instant karmic friend that day and it also was my spiritual moment of clarity. There was no escaping who I was and this lesson had been given to me by spirit to see the immediate karmic consequences of my actions – instant karma.
I wonder if other people had an experience like this if they would be inclined to rip people off, use unscrupulous business practices, or fail to see their actions are also creating the energy of instant karma. When a person makes a spiritual contract with the darker side of their persona, they hide behind a pleasant mask for people not to see who they really are. The failure by these ‘self takers’ to see how their actions create energetic consequences and to change their ways because they are happily living off the misfortune of others will eventually find its karmic path to their door.
It is so easy to dismiss an ethical duty and to find solace in ones own meaning and self importance. The failure to really see the self you treated badly as being a direct member of your spiritual family is the reason why our world has come to be in the place it is now.
I spiritually claim the instant karma lesson as my greatest moment of truth.
